The name A Squeeze and A Kiss refers to the action of the reed in weaving this piece. The cloth alternates areas of very open weave, having lots of negative space, with areas of very tight weave and very little negative space. In the open areas, I just kiss the reed to the cloth. In the tighter areas, I give the reed a good hard beat against the emerging fabric to squeeze the threads together. The open areas lend elegance to the cloth; the tight areas provide structure and stability. The overall effect is gorgeous.
